2020 M2D2 $200K Challenge

An annual startup competition hosted by M2D2, focused on identifying and rewarding disruptive companies in the medical technology and biotechnology industries.

Each year, The University of Massachusetts Lowell based Massachusetts Medical Device Development Center (a well-established and one of the few medical device development centers in the US), is conducting a $200K Challenge to select the top medtech and biotech startups and expose them to some of the leading biotech, medtech and pharma companies and investors in the US.

For the second year, the Deshpande Foundation has announced it will sponsor up to three early-stage India-based medtech/life sciences companies that are chosen as finalists in the M2D2 $200K Challenge. This generous sponsorship will cover all travel and housing expenses for those teams, as well as tours around the Massachusetts life sciences innovation ecosystem and introductions to potential mentors and investors.

Last year’s sponsored finalists (all IITMIC/MTI incubated startups) brought products and ideas that opened a lot of eyes. The finalists included:
– BuzzArk Simulations are creators of a virtual reality simulator for natural orifice surgery training

– IMOV Motiontech are developing a minimally invasive electrophysiology device for diagnosis and treatment

– MediSim VR are developers of a haptic enabled VR surgery simulator.
BuzzArk was one of the second place awardees and MedSim has now established a Boston office with aid of the service providers from the Challenge and has engaged with Johnson & Johnson.
