Mr.Vasu Guruswamy, Founding Partner, Lavni Ventures, Venture Partner, CSL Ventures, Former Vice President, Global Services, SIS.

Vasu Guruswamy is the Founding Partner in Lavni Ventures, started in late 2017, an unique “ZERO GP COST, NO GP CARRY” early stage venture investment firm based in India and USA, that funds technology driven social impact causes. Lavni raises funds through an 80-20 profit sharing model with investors. Lavni invests in select technology startups, at an angel stage, mentors them through their early growth and raises angel and seed funds for them. As a ZERO GP FEE firm, the 20% carry (profit share) drives new social impact investments. He is also a Venture Partner on advisory basis in CSL Ventures, the venture capital arm of CSL Capital Management, an energy focused private equity firm. He brings a very unique combination of deep domain experience in Oil & Gas technology, software and services along with expertise in Information Technology. His extensive connections in technology startups worldwide, including incubators and accelerators in universities in US, India, Israel and Europe, and his mentorship role in several startups provide a strong deal sourcing avenue.

Vasu is now focusing on the fast growing Lavni Ventures and is shifting base to India (Bengaluru and Chennai) but also spends a few months as necessary in UK and USA. Prior to joining CSL, he spent 33 years in Schlumberger starting in 1984, with a career that spanned a wide range of positions from field operations, petrophysics, product development, global IT operations and business line operations. His last position in Schlumberger was Vice President, Global Services in the Software Information Solutions division, based in London. He has a B.Tech. in Chemical Engineering (1977-82) from IIT Madras, India and an MS (1982-84) in Chemical Engineering from RPI, NY, USA. He has served on the board of Energistics, the global organization defining data transfer standards for the Oil & Gas industry. He was previously on the advisory board of the European Union-sponsored Optique project focused on big data solutions in the upstream oil and gas industry. He was one of the active sponsors in setting up SIRIUS, a Norwegian center for Research- driven innovation that addresses the problems of scalable data access in oil & gas industry.

He is currently on boards of companies in CSL energy portfolio and FlytBase, a drone SW technology startup apart from being an advisor and mentor to several startups around the world. He is currently a Houston TiE Charter member and member of ACA (Angel Capital Association) USA. Lavni USA has also invested in a few for-profit companies as part of its efforts to build the foundational for its corpus for future. He is currently engaged in setting up the Lavni India Angel Fund, an early stage micro VC fund, with its social impact scheme focused on rural health, employment, education and carbon reduction opportunities.
